Funding support for Smithton Foreshore

A Circular Head environmental project will receive funding support of $250,000 from the Turnbull Federal Government.

Liberal Senator for Tasmania Stephen Parry announced the funding commitment for the Smithton Duck River Eastern Foreshore Rehabilitation as part of the Improving Your Local Parks and Environment programme.

“The funds will allow the Circular Head Council to construct the Eastern Foreshore rockwall and develop the area as a community recreation area,” Senator Parry said.

“Rock will be placed in the area between the Scout Hall north towards Murray Street replacing old demolition fill, creating a safer and more pleasant environment for recreation.

“The rockwall is designed to protect against erosion and withstand flooding.” Senator Parry acknowledged the work of former Federal Member for Braddon Brett Whiteley who worked closely with the Circular Head community to deliver for the region.

The Federal Government is providing grants for projects identified in the 2016 election campaign to support communities to revitalise, maintain and improve local parks, nature reserves, rivers, coastal areas and community facilities.

The programme aims to build environmental awareness and ensure communities have better and more accessible green spaces.
