The Senate

The Senate is one of the two houses of the Australian Federal Parliament. It consists of 76 senators, twelve from each of the six states and two from each of the mainland territories. It shares the power to make laws with the other House of the Parliament, the House of Representatives.

Elected as the 24th President

On July 7 2014, Senator the Hon Stephen Parry, Liberal Senator for Tasmania, was elected as the 24th President of the Senate of the Australian Parliament. As well as presiding over the Senate and administrating Parliamentary departments, the President hosts dignitaries and delegations.

What is Hansard?

They are published shortly after the chamber or committee proceedings have concluded.
